A Call To The Creative....

Have you seen these new large plastic containers that coffee is coming in these days... sure you have... especially if you drink gallons of coffee like I do.

Well I have amassed a nice collection of these wonderful containers. Thing is I have no idea what to do with them. They have to be good for something! I can't bring myself to throw them away.... we don't have recycling here in Hickville.... and they seem like such nice containers. They even have a nice handle on them. I can't find a way to get the logos off of them... they're painted on or something.

So I'm asking all of you creative ones out there..... what can I do with these great containers??? Give me some craft ideas!!! Surely they are good for something! We used one as a drum for Steffie when was a baby... but she's long outgrown her lil drum. I even Googled it and came up with zilch as far as craft projects. So tell me something! Anything! I have a ton of them sitting here and I need a reason to not throw them out!

Save our Mother Earth from this plastic going to the dump!!!

Save my house before I have enough to wallpaper a whole room with these things!!!

How about putting your rice or cereal in them and they will last longer and don't have to worry about critters. I'd use one or two to put our birdseed in it that is out in the garage.

My daughter just made her own piggy bank with my last one. She had a ball decorating it. I can't wait to hear more ideas.

did you check out ann's blog at ann's snap edit & scrap? she just posted what she did with these cans. i think she is using them to put stuff in for christmas gifts. you would have to paint them or decoupage them or something to cover up the words. have a great day...hugz!

LOL... that's funny Grampy... I was sure that I was the only one with a coffee container collection.

That's a great idea Chatty... They would actually make great canisters for flour... sugar etc... if only I could figure a way to make them more attractive.

Sherri I would love to see a pic of the bank your daughter made! That's a great idea!

Wow PJ!.... that is soooo weird (in a great way!) that she posted the answer to my question just as I was thinking it.... and I even have her blog listed in my new blog roll.

I'm still open to more ideas.... I'm telling you I have a ton of these things. You should see the way my hubby looks at me every time I add another to the collection.

Hey Lashan. The picture I have on my blog is one of the smaller coffee containers but I also have one of the big Maxwell house ones sitting here too.
With the small one the label comes off so I just put ribbon around it. With the big ones, you're right painted on label (bummer). I'm going to decoupage a strip of paper or something over top of that section. I used Mod Podge on the small frosting containers and will use that on the coffee too. You can also use fabric. I decoupaged fabric to a couple of the frosting containers I made.

Have you tried the sticky colored paper to cover the labels. You would have to measure and cut, but I think it would do the trick and then you could accent with cute stickers or something. I'm sure you could find something in the scrapbook section.

I use them for my daughter's craft items: crayons, cotton balls, markers, etc.
