Overworked!

I think they're trying to kill my husband... his company that is. He's been at work since 7:00a.m. and it is now 10:30 p.m. Yesterday was his day off.... he was there from 3:00 p.m until 7:30 last night.... some day off! But this is usually how it goes... he is required to put in 50 hours a week and we knew it would sometimes be more... but since he got out of training he's been putting in 70+ hours each week. He's usually in there on his day off to fix some issue that no one else can seem to handle..... and instead of his required 10 hour workdays he's putting in 12 or more. Of course he is on salary so he doesn't get paid any more money... he's just working those hours for free.

But I am greatful that he has a job..... so many people don't right now.

My husband just got promoted to a salary position. It is a big change, and we are all adjusting to the crazy hours for free part. It isn't all the time, or every day though, so we can work it out.

Well he finally got home right as I was writing my post last night shortly after 10:30.... and he's gone again at 10:30 this morning. Who knows when he'll be home tonight... he says around 8:00.... but I'm not counting on it.

Ugh! My husband has turned salaried positions down in his company for this exact reason. He already works 70+ hours a week most weeks. On salary, they'd probably want him to live there, lol!

unless you are a big boss in a company, salaried positions suck! they take advantage of you terribly. i had a salary position once, and never again! i ended up working for less than minimum wage! i'll be sending some "cut me some slack" energies your way...hehehe

much love to you...

Ever read that children's book "If you give a mouse a cookie"? I think companies are the same way. And they keep laying people off so somebody has to do the work...why not squeeze a few more hours out of those salaried drones you still have on the payroll. But, unemployment sucks, so given the choice I'd opt for working the hours.

Believe it or not, I envy you. My husband is a self-employed painter and has had no work recently. Add that to me being on unemployment and life is pretty tense around her. I know the long hours suck - there are times that he's been on jobs that keep him away for long hours, too - but right now I'd be happy for anything. Too much together time!!

Those are really long days! I hope this is temporary because if it's not, he should be compensated for the increased workload. The poor guy probably collapses completely when he gets home!

But, you're right. With the awful economy and the constant layoffs around us, having a job is a beautiful thing!

I know, here is the same thing. When you go on salary there goes the over time pay. And I think companies are taking advantage of the situation. As you said many are out of job so those who have one, try to keep it no matter how long is the hours. Right?
So companies schedule longer hours instead of hiring new people to cover the extra shift. Thank you for visiting my blog.

Those are crazy hours. I am on salary too but since I had my first son, I made it clear that I couldn't do crazy hours anymore. Lucky for me they supported me. O.K, actually I left the company I was working for and found a company that supported me. Of course, that was before the recession.

My husband is in that same position. I almost wonder if their employers don't know it and take advantage a bit because of the economy.
